Hello all, I am deployed to Afghanistan right now and I have a N9 phone that I have had since two deployments ago. While I was home, I dual booted the phone with Android so that my son could use it to surf the web at home. During that process I loaded the US 001 firmware and Android ICS. I have since re-flashed it to 001 bin, but I realized it was the wrong one and I needed the 006 bin for the Middle East. So the issue is that even though I have flashed and updated the 006.bin files, I still can't get my N9 to register the Roshan (local cell company) SIM card in the phone. I know the SIM is good because I use it on my Verizon Razr Maxx out here.

I have tried NaviFirm to download the files, but for some reason on 3 different computer the NaviFIrm app does not work. Any ideas as to which one I need to use?

Some extra info for you guys..

There is no reason ever to flash certain firmware to register to an operators network, never

Firmware is only for localization, what maps you have for default on the device etc...

For all I know you are thinking it wrong!
The specific regional firmware images are what the device was shipped with, it might only deactivate things prohibited in that region and not make it fit for a specific provider area. If you flash it with the 001 image you should just do fine, unless the provider is using a band the device is not capable of, that would be a hardware issue. I don't know if flashing with something higher (in number) than 001 will actually do good as the 001 image is the most you can get.

Does the cell company require IMEI registration at their offices before you're allowed onto the network?

(If you bought the SIM card off a market/street vendor the answer to this is probably no, but if you were issued a SIM card, the answer would probably be yes.)

Thanks all for the replies... The phone was previously used here in AFG, so I know its not a hardware issue.. just not sure why its not working. The sim's dont need registered either.

Any other ideas?
