i'd like to be the first to report that my N800 was stolen (from inside my house).

seriously, this is just a reminder to the community to be careful with their new computers - particularly with stored passwords (banks, email, etc.). Is there a way to password protect the N800 (login)? probably a pain, but might be worth it in the long run.

i've already ordered my 2nd N800. should be here next week.

ya you can lock the screen at bootup and after periods of inactivity, via the control panel.

Locking the device is partial security. They can also remove any of the memery cards and read them from another system. An encrypted file system would be nice or software like password safe but better. ewallet on the n800 would be nice.

This is where truecrypt would be really cool. Especially if it could be added to a login script. Mmc cards are encrypted until a successful login. That's why I use file vault on my laptop. 128 bit aes encryption should keep them out long enough for me to change all my passwords.

Sorry to hear your loss... and a very good reminder for me. I'm leaving tomorrow to a vacation trip to Asia where there is a good possibility that my N800 might get lost/stolen... I just disabled alll my saved passwords on the device, just in case!

Too bad they didn't try to break in while you were at home so you could have shot them to death.
Someone tried that to my father's house while he was at home and he shot through the door and killed the man dead. Police investigated and found him innocent (castle doctrine) and now he's looking at suing the man's family for what it cost him to repair the door.

Good. All too often you hear about them suing the other direction.

I doubt it.
The crackhead probably pawned it. First places to look are the local pawnshops.

@ all: so, is there a way to lock down the N800 or not? i'm confused. how about opera or firefox? anyway to password protect the use of the browsers? thx.
