So I came across this site: http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/13411
and they talk a lot about there being versions of the games in Linux and that they are open source, etc.

Would it be possible to run any of them as-they-are on Maemo or is Maemo so 'different' to the Linux that they refer to here so that they can't run without some further work on them?

I'm particularly curious about;
- Space Hulk, http://hulk.sourceforge.net/
- Blood Bawl, http://bbowl.sourceforge.net/
- Realms of Magic http://realmsofmagic.sourceforge.net/

or...maybe it's just easier to get windows versions and install dosbox on the nokia tablet if getting them to run natively in Maemo is not possible?

The files are missing for Hulk (the download links yields a blank page).

BloodBowl requires Java. Java is not available for os2008. Might run in EasyDeb Turbo though.

Realms of Magic requires Microsoft's .NET framework because it seems to be written in C#. Mono might be a suitable substitute but I don't know if that's been ported. The source files are available though so it should be possible to port (probably tedious though).

In general if the full source is available and it is compatible with Linux (library-wise) - then it should/might work on the NITs, provided it can be compiled (may require modification) and it is not too graphically-intensive.

The problem with games designed for Windows, is that they often use Windows-specific libraries. WINE can use dlls (libraries) from Windows to compensate but since that's not the case for the NITs because they are ARM.

Thanks, the file(s) seems to be available here: http://r.vinot.free.fr/spacehulk/download.html

What do you think it would take to get this running in the Maemo version of Linux?

There is a Mono port for Maemo, I think even Hildonized (though I may be wrong).

The author was kind enough to share the source code files for the Linux version of Space Hulk (the strategy one..not the action game).

They are at: http://r.vinot.free.fr/spacehulk/spa...5-beta1.tar.gz
Not sure if they are maemoable or not though as he writes:
"the code is probably outdated (using QT3), and it may not be trivial to update it for newer libraries."
