I am currently running Camera 2.9 but at garage.maemo.org there is a version 2.9Video. When I attempt to update to this version, I get an error. With version 2.9 installed, I tried downloaded 2.9 video and tried to install from file. Error "unable to update
camera". Tried to uninstall 2.9, then install 2.9 video. Error "unable to install camera". Anybody had any luck?

I recall trying that too, and running into the same problem. I moved on, so I don't have a solution, sorry.

Video recording? I don't remember that in the Camera app included with OS2007.

I'm using OS2008 now, and there is no included Camera app... still or video. Not yet, at least.

Yes, there was a camera app that did video... although it had challenges up the wazoo!

I tried it for a few vids but the tablet wouldn't even play them! ...go figure.

Noble effort... lousy followthrough.

Omega

I found a file at the following location that works for me now. Perhaps the "official" file is corrupted?

I have a bit of footage shot by the N800, one panning across a country landscape, one panning across a room. Not impressive, but kinda fun. My current version of the camera doesn't have that feature, but one did!

IIRC, shortly after the releases of the official Camera app, that maemo garage project puts together a modified version with video support. It's generally a little buggy but can get the job done usually! You might want to remove your existing camera app before adding the video one - they might either a) conflict or b) be listed at the same version so app mgr won't replace (since it doesn't seem like an upgrade)

I use my phone (pos Nokia v710) for stills and transfer them over to the Nokia. For a phone cam it takes reasonable pictures. Better than the one built into the Nokia anyway. I haven't tried transferring a video from the phone yet though.
