First: Gnuite / JohnC, Maemo Mapper is incredible! Thanks for building it!

Can somebody explain how Maemo Mapper chooses the area which maps will be downloaded for? I'm trying to download maps for my home city and for cities I travel to.

The docs say that maps will be downloaded within a rectangle whose corners are where you clicked to center previously, and where you're currently centered.

I tried that, but the maps I end up with don't match up with the area I chose.

Can someone please explain the agorithm Maemo Mapper uses for this?

I would also love to understand this as well, I resorted to just jumping around the city and using the area download to get 4,6 levels and after about 20 areas it seems to have the whole thing.
I would be nice to just let us draw a rectangle on the screen.
And I am with Norm, I love Maemo Mapper, just don't get how to use the area thing.

The documentation needs updating - the Area coordinates are initialized based on a square surrounding the current center location (wide enough to fill the screen).

If you need something more precise, I suggest using something like Google Earth (on a PC) to locate the lat/lon of the corners of the rectangle that you want to download. The in-Maemo-Mapper alternative is to right-click on your desired corners and use "Show Lat/Lon" to get the latitude and longitude, which you have to memorize and enter into the text fields. Blech.
