i have a os2007 Nokia n800 and I am thinking of upgrading...

I only use it for Internet/IM/music&video and I don't intend to install applications, just a few applets.

I never experienced the power on problem or the memory cards problems that I read about in this forum...the tablet works perfect

I am afraid that after upgrade, these problems will appear...

what should I do?

I'd suggest upgrading. IIRC the memory card problems have been solved (they were a problem with the way the Linux driver handled SD cards, nothing specific to the tablets) and I have personally never experienced a power on problem... even though I do push my tablet to the limit every now and again.

another thing: i use n800 at low-mid brightness levels...

I heard that after OS2008 upgrade brightest levels change and are brighter...and the lowest level on OS2008 isn't as lowest as on OS2007

how this affects the read in dark and the battery life?

I would say no, don't upgrade yet. There's little benefit to OS2008, and from what I can see it's at "version 1.0" quality at the moment - i.e., wait for 1.1.

On the other hand... if you haven't installed "any" extra apps then flashing and trying out OS2008 would not take long time? If you do not like it you can flash back to OS2007 as well.

You likely want to make backup of your OS2007 install. In case you want to go back to OS2007 then restoring your setup should be very easy. (And my advise to restore OS2007 backup for OS2008: Don't do it.)

One more thing... make sure you have downloaded (or know where to find) OS2007 image in case you want to go back...

Upgrade - the bump in processor speed is WELL worth it! That and a lot of devs are working solely on OS2008 apps; even porting to 2K8 is easier thanks to a more upto date GTK.

I've had no issues so far.

I dont have much experience with 2007 but 2008 looks so much better than 2007 ever did, the transparent applets on the homepage look great. Microb as the browser with the adblock addon installed works fantastic and makes browsing quick as there are no more ads and full javascript support means most websites work perfectly. Flash 9 works great and youtube can be viewed at a pretty decent speed. There are a lot of other improvements from what I can tell but these alone are well worth it. I am very impressed and would not downgrade back to 2007 now.

Upgrade, the problems are not as much as they seem. You only see lots of the same people saying the same things so it seems like a deluge of complaints. Its not that bad.

OS2008 is worth it and you'd be silly not to move on. Nokia and Maemo didn't spend their time building it just to make things worse. Yes you loose some things, and some stuff gets moved around, but that's the essence of compromise to make the overall better.

So grab those gonads i hope you have and take the plunge. Just remember to backup and do a fresh install.

Good luck

I agree. The speed improvements in the video alone, is well worth the upgrade. The only app I'm missing is Abiword, and hopefully, they'll have that for 2008 soon.
