And already the second question. Within the Mail setup I can configure that Mails stay on the server even if I delete them on the N810. I tested it and the Mails I delete are deleted on the server as well regardless what I configure. Is the a user problem (I guess...) or a bug? Or do I need to configure something else?

Thanks a lot for any hints.

Are you using IMAP or POP? I haven't seen a problem with IMAP but then again I always want it deleted from the server (it's IMAP after all). I don't think I've used POP in almost a decade, you might try IMAP if the server allows it.

I am using POP. I will see if IMAP is supported by the server - Thanks.

imap would be a bad idea - as it is exactly made for NOT having local copies. imap works by accessing mails directly on the server - so a delete is done on the server.
You need a pop setup - I recommend claws mail - my most essential tool on n770.

It is exactly that reason that I prefer IMAP and won't use POP. Since I need to be online to get mail either way I read the mail while I'm there. I have no need to download mail and read it the next day i.e. "When do you want it?" "Now would be good"..

The notion of a personal computer or in the words of Microslop "My Computer" isn't in my vocabulary. I will use several computers through the day and then any random computer or the NIT while out and about. IMAP allows me to see exactly the same messages from any machine. If you steal my machine then you don't have my mail but I do from anywhere else.

And since I run my own servers I'll access it (claws from the NIT) via IMAP/SSL. Same for the web interface when I'm on a random computer.

People use those crappy freebie mail servers from the web for the convenience so how is IMAP any different except being more secure and faster? So if you're using POP with that workaround "keep mail on server" trick then you might as well use IMAP. much preferred IMHO.

I strongly second this. IMAP is really what the NIT average user should prefer and use.

I think you mean that you have placed a checkmark in the box at Menu > Accounts > Manage > Edit > Advanced > Leave messages on server. This setting prevents the messages from being deleted automatically after retrieval, but it does not preserve them if you manually delete them on the N810.

When you delete a Message deletion dialog appears with two choices:

Delete from Nokia N810 only
Delete from Nokia N810 and server

Unfortunately, the first choice is unavailable unless you have retrieved the body of the message to the N810. This is an odd design because often I can see from the header that the message is one I do not need to read now, but will need to read when I return to my office PC.

Thanks for the hint.
