http://www.electronista.com/articles...ls.7.2mbps.3g/

It looks like there could be some promising upgrades coming soon to the cellular market for mobile internet, which should in turn spark a bandwidth war among the providers, which in the end will benefit all of us.

If it doesn't start a bandwidth war, I'll be very disappointed, however, we will at least see better performance overall, and better mobile internet, so that's a plus.

I read about this yesterday. I was amazed to learn at&t didn't have 7.2 mbps yet. Rogers has provided it in Canada for quite a while now, although not that many phones can take advantage. Even ones with a 7.2 radio usually don't have powerful enough CPUs to process that much data.

This is pretty unnecessary for our tablets, as bluetooth can't handle anything above 1mbps, even with a good phone (I've found only Nokias can deliver that speed).

Right, but if there's a data war, you have other systems that will step up and provide that speed to you, such as the mifi or some other mobile 3G/4G networking cards.

Meanwhile, pre-paid is gaining acceptance in the U.S., and plans such as Boost's $50/month unlimited talk, text, and data offering are putting pressure on traditional, post-paid plans. If the U.S. market sees simultaneous bandwidth and price wars, consumers here might make out well.

Yeah, I'm thinking that we're long overdue for a price war. Especially against the baby bells. They've needed to be put in their place for a while, and a price/feature war would do just that. It'd take away their monopoly power and force them to play on a level field.
