The fonts on the devices are not complete to save space. The boxes simply mean that no appropriate character was found in any font. You can add missing fonts, though.
I'm trying to use StarDict with some dictionaries which use IPA glyphs in the articles. Doing that I noticed, that those glyphs are displayed as little boxes with the respective code point number in it.
It's not the application itself since loading a text file containing such codes (encoded as UTF-8) into the editor gives the same result. On the other hand I know that the fonts (e.g. Vera Sans) contains these glyphs and programs on the PC running Ubuntu show them.
So is there a known bug or is there somehow a restriction put on the abilities of Maemo?
