Well after months of beating myself up i've decided to try and flash to 1.1.1 as i'm currently stuck in the magical world of Vodafone.

Although i'm happy to follow the direction from the site i was just wondering if consideration to create a widget to complete this task automatically has been thought about?

Well fingers crossed here comes 1.1.1 for me!

A widget that would allow branded handsets to pick available updates that have not been received OTA from Nokia. An example i'm on vodafone and still waiting for 1.1.1 and no doubt will be doing the same for 1.2!

I understand / learning that I can flash to this upgrade (and plan to try this weekend), but was just thinking out load that it would be cool if i could just press a widget and could force a missing upgrade to my handset rather than having to chase it through different sites.

Hope this makes sense?

I don't know how the vodafone branding looks like but setting up the proper repositories doesn't do the job?

No it doesn't from the repositories, Vodafone has a a version 205 firmware that is the only one that has not been updated to version 1.1.1

There is nothing in the vodafone version that is vodafone specific except the hard coded apn that I can see so I personally cannot see any reason for Vodafone to drag its feet.

This has been mentioned many times on other forums and Vodafone themselves stated somewhere as long the firmware was official Nokia firmware the warranties would not be voided.

I read on Vodafone's own forum (back in March I think) that their own warranty would be voided. That doesn't mean that Nokia's warranty would be and of course it could be outdated information.

I don't think it's as simple as that... you're asking for an app that will fool the phone into thinking it has a different version of the firmware so that it will download different updates, I think.

Sounds like a recipe for disaster and it would be far easier just to re-flash with the generic firmware image. That's been my plan for at least a couple of months but I foolishly decided to wait for the PR1.2 release before doing it.

According to Vodafone's FAQ page on the subject, "official releases direct from the manufacturer do not invalidate your warranty"

http://help.vodafone.co.uk/system/se...PIC_INDEX=null

I'm about to try re-flashing mine

[Edit] And done!

Vodaphone are nothing but cheating greedy vultures and need to be treated with the contempt they deserve.
If anyone is silly enough to even put up with the antics of voda then they cannot be helped but it IS fact that the warranty will always be there from NOKIA no matter what Vodaphone say and do.
Ditch Vodaphone as soon as is possible and don't be scared to flash manually an update.

The only way you can update the O/S on a Vodafone branded handset is to use Maemo Flasher. Hundreds of other Vodafone customers have done so, including me.
It's no mystery why they have locked their customers out of O/S updates. They want to hack and slash at it to remove the bits THEY don't want you to see or use. Skype is one of them. They want you to sign up for their premium web service at £30pm rather than use Skype.

Some of the excuses why they have locked N900 users out of the updates have been pretty outlandish to say the least and keep it clean.
