Nokia contributed PHONET drivers to the Linux kernel. With this you can communicate with the 2G/3G modem over a socket connection. I will post some code here later when I get home.

Now, I believe, you could utilize PHONET for sending raw AT commands to the modem (e.g. for dialing USSD, codes, such as *123#). But PHONET is a low-level protocol and might require encapsulation of the AT commands in PHONET protocol.

I'm looking for people willing to learn more about PHONET, or who might have some experience with it already.

Have you tried using the dbus-send mechanism to dial those codes yet? See User:Jebba wiki page

I will try, but people already reported that although you can dial these codes with it, the carrier will reject it as invalid phone number.

We just need a way to do this directly on the device without connecting it to a computer in PC-Suite mode. And I assume PHONET is the key.
