Look through here, Same problem?
Looks like could be a bug.. strange that it's haphazard on who it affects.

I have a major issue with my N900 - during a phone call the sound bounces high and low all the time. When it drops low, I can't hear the other person!!!
I have already posted about this problem and got a few responses with the same issue. Someone's mentioned that it is a known issue with the device.
I did not experience this problem before the latest update. I have experimented with calls to mobile and landline phones, using both 3G and 2.5G on T-Mobile's USA network in NYC. The sound drops on 9 calls out of 10, but there is no problem when calling to check voicemail.
I have absolutely loved my N900 from the first day I bought it, but this is just killing me! As much as I love it for all of its advantages, like awesome web browsing, I can't use it reliably as a phone and, hence, can't keep it if I won't find a solution the sound drops during calls.
Is there anybody who had this issue and has figured out a way to fix it?
