When I add to an old thread that I wrote by doing an "edit", how can I make it repost as a fresh post.

Well, AFAIK, you don't.

I believe one trick is to delete the post and then post again, as a new post. This actually pisses me off because I expect to see something new, but to each their own.

I update first post in my theme threads when I most a new version and I bump the entire thread so people know its been updated by mosting a new post that says first post updated.
