I'm evaluating a N900 with a view to upgrading from a N95, but the next issue I've found is with the contacts.

On the N95 I can add whatever custom details I like, and rename them to custom names as well. I use this to keep people's old phone numbers so that old data still matches up, even if they no longer use that number.

So that the phone uses the correct (current) number, I used to do thing like rename the old one from "Mobile (Home)" to "Mobile (Home - old)", then add the new one as "Mobile (Home)". However, with the N900 I only get the standard 3 options ("Mobile", "Mobile (home)", and "Mobile (work)", with no way of renaming them. I can have multiple fields of each type, but with no way of signifying with is the old number, I suspect I'll frequently get confused which to use!

Am I missing a trick, or do I need to file a bug/brainstorm?

We all lament the lack of renaming. Apparently, N900 is VCard compatible and that doesn't support this. Like anyone cares.

We've already submitted bugs and brainstorms 6 months ago. Welcome to the bandwagon. We will get this at some point, if not by Nokia then by third party contacts.

For now, Nokia is holding on like an overdose patient to PR 1.2 so development is crippled. But at some point someone will add a secondary database and an UI and that will probably be it.

It's annoying as hell, I have people with 9-11 phone numbers of all kinds and right now it feels like 1993 all over again, with Name, Name2, Name3, etc.
