Hi All,

Well, I know this topic has been done to death in the forum but, still, I was not able to find the appropriate thread, so thought of asking this in a separate post.

I'm trying to run mkv files on N900, I've kmplayer, sib, etc, but the videos were not playing, then I also installed the debs to view 720p videos, along with vlc player. Now, when i open the files on vlc, then the audio can be heard with a blank screen. I thought I might be near to a resolution, so thought of asking you all for advice.

Please let me know. Thanks.

It seems the files have started working on the media player but doesn't work on km or sib etc. Is there any particular setting that I need to do, the issue is that the mkv files have dual audio and I want to select a particular audio.

I believe the n900's mplayer version for the command line allows you to select audio tracks as well. But I don't have any dual audio vids at hand at the moment, so I can't tell you for sure.

Code:
sudo apt-get install mplayer
Have a look at the man page for operation instructions as well...

MKV is a contianer format https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matroska
I have the FreemanGordon 720p upgrades installed and I can get 720p contianing MKV's to play, others not. Sometimes it just takes renaming the file to AVI or MP4 though it is a long time since I have needed that trick and never in my memory on the N900.
The file that I tried now and just failed was a MKV containing h264 720x480 video and mpeg-4 AAC audio.
BTW where did you find VLC, chroot Debian?
(edit)
found it from videolan repo
http://nokia-n900.com/vlc-on-the-n900/
(edit 2)
so I can play another with H.264 / AVC 720 x 404 and MPEG-4 AAC it plays even in the native player
I installed VLC and I also was only able to get audio for the h264 720x480 video and mpeg-4 AAC audio file which fails in the native player.
