I have an idea for an application. Since I can't program, i'll leave it for anyone interested.Idea: An alarm clock that can't be turned off unless some sort of puzzle is completed. There are some like this for sale, but adapting the idea to use in the tablets may be fun.
Here is one :
It creates a random code and the cables need to get paired. I'm guessing its a bit like mastermind, though i'm no sure.
Any kind of simple puzzle that forces you awake would be fine.
It could stay in the background, and activate when the time is up.
And start quiet then grow louder, to make things more interesting. Of course it shouldn't allow you to kill it from the menu button.
I hope I can interest someone, I don't think i've seen such a thing in a handheld device before, but maybe I'm wrong.

Don't we have a rushhour clone on the tablets?

That could work for the puzzle end. Just needs heavily modified to prevent exiting, and alarm functionality added...

There are a bunch of "lovable" alarm clocks, and concepts out there. I don''t have much trouble waking up if I HAVE to, and usually my dog wanting to go to the toilet works well enough. But I think they are a great example of applied technology and design. I have seen a lot by reading blogs that have odd inventions, my favorite being the helicopter alarm clock. time's up, it sends a small wheel flying up into the ceiling, and it needs to retrieved to turn the thing off. There is one with puzzle piezes that are thrown far away and need to be retrieved and placed, and one that has wheels and moves randomly until it gets stuck, probably far from your bed. One the rolls your covers away from you, mommy style, and one that hangs on top of your head, and everytime you hit snooze it goes up, till you get up.

Exactly...any puzzle already out there should be fine, but i'm not sure if maemo allows the exiting disabled. And if the puzzle is too much, there's always popping out the battery XD.

I've heard of most of these, but not this one. A headcrab alarm clock?

hmm... maybe I should rig up xword so that I'd have to complete the NYTimes crossword puzzle (correctly) before the alarm stopped ringing...

...especially since I wouldn't be using the alarm on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday!

My best time? 1 minute, 04 seconds on a Tuesday puzzle. ..but then, I wasn't doing it immediately upon waking up, either... I had had some coffee already!

so you are in for the adrenaline, then XD. I think its a great idea to get awake faster. Without the caffeine. Trying to nail a puzzle so early is bound to get the brain a kickstart.
