I installed gpodder today and noticed on the garage page that development appears to have come to a screeching halt in April right after that last release. Does anyone know if there are any plans to continue this project? I love this app on the desktop and would very much like to continue to use it on my N800 but it is a bit kludgy in it's present state. I'm probably going to email the project admin to find out what his intentions are and if there's anything I can do to help (although I have no coding skills whatsoever), provided he doesn't stumble across this thread first. It'd be nice to hear from some others who use or would like to use this application so I could show him there's some interest/incentive to continue work on it.

The Canola developers have implemented podcatching in their latest version I hope its as robust and user friendly as the old Canola. I love gPodder too but it still needs a little work.

I appreciate the suggestion. Canola looks slick and I'm sure it's great, but I've had a heck of a time installing that app and I don't have the patience to go out chasing down individual missing dependencies and mucking about in the command line to get them installed. So until the Maemo or Canola folks get the repo straightened out I'm gonna take a pass on that one for now. I'd like an app that does just this one thing (podcatching) as I don't have a huge multimedia library and am only really interested in podcasts, and gPodder would fit that bill nicely if it just ran a little smoother.

one question:
I see that gPodder for "General Linux" is on Version 0.9.5, but my version is at 0.8.0-10-maemo. Am I missing a new build, or would it be possible to build the most recent version for maemo???

http://svn.berlios.de/svnroot/repos/...runk/ChangeLog

as thomas perli is living in living in the same country as i do, I will try to contact him...

cheers, karl.

No, you haven't missed a build. As I mentioned in the original post, there hasn't been any activity on this project since April, and judging by the lack of any reply from the project lead for the maemo port I'm not holding out much hope that there ever will be unless someone else decides to take it over. As for me, I've bitten the bullet and moved on to Canola (after much thrashing about finally getting it installed properly ).

Only problem is that you cant "download" podcasts with canola. You can only stream
them.
I would just be happy if the status box when checking for new podcasts in gpodder
would not stay 'on top' of all my other windows while I try to do other things while it
checks for new shows.y problem is that you cant "download" podcasts with canola. You can only stream them.

Actually I'd settle for changing the download location! It's a shame development stopped on gPodder's maemo port; it's an excellent app for light podcasting needs.

I went through the code tonight thinking I could try to make some changes, but I'm thinking it's a bit over my head. I'm way more of a sysadmin / networking guru than a coder! I've been troubleshooting computers and networks since 1986, but have only started picking up a bit of coding recently.
