Hello,

I thought vpnc-gui just to be a frontend, but actually vpnc only works if the gui is started.

I configured vpnc to connect automatically, when i'm on 3g online and not to do it on wifi, as t-mobile limits my connection.

But vpnc only connects, if vpnc-gui ist started. Is there a way to start it by a daemon automatically?

Thanks,
MPW

Hi,

no ideas?

What I want is, that vpnc connects to my vpn-server without having the vpnc-gui open all the time.

Bye

You have to set the settings in a file in /etc/vpnc

#sudo gainroot
Put the first 4 lines to match the connection details... in the file below. You can swap test.conf
#vi /etc/vpnc/test.conf

IPSec gateway the.address.or.ip.of.server
IPSec ID group.name.given.to.you.by.administrator
IPSec secret group.password.given.to.you.by.administrator
Xauth username your.username.given.to.you.by.administrator

From a root-shell you can then run:
#vpnc test

To close the connection
#vpnc-disconnect

I am trying to make a VPN connection to my company's server using my N900. Usually I connect using a Cisco VPN Client on a WinXP laptop.

I have the group name, but the group password is secret and won't be given me by admins. I have a .pcf file though, in where the secret password is stored. Does anyone know how I can "load" this file into vpnc to make a connection workable?

Thanks!

EDIT: The password is stored in the file as an encrypted password.

I've just installed vpnc from extras devel
copied my old /etc/vpnc.conf from laptop to /etc/vpnc/vpnc.conf on n900 and
run with "sudo vpnc vpnc". too easy to be true.
of course, no vpnc-gui installed.

i'm not sure what the problem is here.

I use vpnc+gui+mfe+alarmd to auto connect vpn, mail syn and disconnect every 30 mins. works a treat!

having the gui just shows me when the connection is open which is usefull

Debian package vpnc contains
/usr/lib/vpnc/cisco-decrypt
/usr/share/vpnc/pcf2vpnc
