I know that if I write letter to nokia then I could get the source code of maemo5, and n900 has the OS of maemo5,is that mean if I compile the source code of maemo5 into a package ,then I can flash it onto n900 and it will work well?what about the hard drivers of n900,are they all included in the source code of maemo5 that I get?

You don't need to ask nokia. You can get it here... About the drivers?(on most of them) good luck. And if you ever get them share them here all devs would be proud of you.

Is today ask for N900 source code day? Here's a similar thread

Anyway, unfortunately there are bits of Maemo 5 that are not open source.

i don't know if there's a non offensive way to nominate this as one of those uhhh.... contenders for most awesome thread? lol
sorry baidongxu
i think you're approaching this from the wrong angle.
you take the source, find something to modify, and update that one thing. no flashing is needed unless you are messing with the kernel or something you probably shouldn't be doing.

thank you for reply! the reason I want to compile the source code of n900 is that I made a module.and I want to compile the module into the kernel.as I have said that I could get the source code of maemo but I do not know if I could compile it successfully.

You need to email the Internet to ask for what is open-core. Thank you come again.

Hi! Based on what you said you would only want the kernel source and not the whole maemo source code. You could load your module into it just like Titan's kernel, Wireless driver, etc.

I suggest you read this on making your own custom kernel
