instead of trying for an OTA update you could always flash the phone using the flashing Wiki for it.
Easy as pie mate, don't be scared. If you want simple instructions post back and I'll post 'em up for you.

I have tried updating maemo from the phone and it was around 95-98% complete and then said update failed!! Any ideas? And keep it simple as I am not familiar with the tech side of things too much!!
