3.) Go to windows to start, run and enter CMD...this will get you to the DOS prompt. Type ipconfig and enter. Write down your IP address when it appears.

Thanks for that - it was very helpful.
There's just a couple of things I would add to it.
This step didn't work for me as I'm behind a router. So I had to log in to my router and find out what my IP address was from the router homepage. Using a site like http://www.whatsmyip.org/ would also have given me the same info.
Also because I was behind a firewall I had to open port 3389 for remote desktop.
I have one problem though - as my IP address is dynamically allocated I have to change it every time I reboot my router.
This creates an obvious problem if I'm away from home and find that I want to connect but didn't take a note of the current IP ahead of time.
Still though it's pretty cool.
