I read some more posts and I got mine working. Here is what you do :

1.) You must have a version of Windows that has Terminal Server...XP-Pro, NT or Windows 2000
2.) Install rdesktop on your Nokia tablet.
3.) Go to windows to start, run and enter CMD...this will get you to the DOS prompt. Type ipconfig and enter. Write down your IP address when it appears.
4.) You need two user accounts in Windows for rdesktop to work. If you only have one, go to control panel, user accounts and create a second user account with a password. This is the one you will use to gain Nokia table access.
5.) Run rdesktop on your Nokia and enter the following:
under RDP server enter your Windows IP address, then enter the username and password of your second user account, then enter your Workgroup name in Domain field. You can get your Workgroup name by going to my computer, click properties and write down what your workgroup name is. Next click BT keyboard if you have a Nokia BT keyboard.
6.) There is no keyboard when you get into Windows. You have to either use BT keyboard or go to start, programs, accessories, accessibility, on screen keyboard.
7.) Now run rdesktop on Nokia, enter username and password and you should be in!!

Thanks for that - it was very helpful.

There's just a couple of things I would add to it.

This step didn't work for me as I'm behind a router. So I had to log in to my router and find out what my IP address was from the router homepage. Using a site like http://www.whatsmyip.org/ would also have given me the same info.

Also because I was behind a firewall I had to open port 3389 for remote desktop.

I have one problem though - as my IP address is dynamically allocated I have to change it every time I reboot my router.
This creates an obvious problem if I'm away from home and find that I want to connect but didn't take a note of the current IP ahead of time .

Still though it's pretty cool .

No-IP Free provides a similar service.
You could then just log on to your account at NO-IP's website when you are away from home to find out what your current IP address is.

Your right. I was connecting on my home LAN. My original intent was to use rdesktop as a remote control for my HTPC. That didn't work since you can't see whats on the server screen after you take control with your N770. I'm now using VNC on the N770 and RealVNC on my windows PC and I finally have my remote HTPC control. Also, I didn't need a copy of XP-Pro, XP home works fine.
