As the thread title suggests, I keeping seeing people mention how they've compiled X program for the N9.

How does one go about actually doing that?

Thanks for any help.

if you mean the QML application it is done by Qt SDK (i dont know if there is SDK for meego ! ) and you need to learn QML/Qt/C++ for doing that

He asked for compiling not creating an app.

To compile stuff for the phone you can install Harmattan Platform SDK to your PC, run scratchbox (select target as HARMATTAN_ARMEL), wget sources and compile away like you normally would. Or you could install necessary tools to your phone and compile directly on it. (I haven't tried the latter yet).
