Hi,

I am trying hard to write my owbn applicatioin ported to Nokia 770/800 or to modify oner and compile to see how it works.
Starting from Python scripts.
Totay I tried to join developers list at Maemo.org
but the only option provided is to join a mailing list.
I prefer not to subscribe to mailing lists not to have my mailbox full of unread messages.
Is there any other way to read and post to maemo developers list in htmlized form (as at this forum or the like ) ?

The other problem is I can access some maemo.org websites
but there are no links provided to move from one interface to another\

https://lists.maemo.org/mailman/list...emo-developers

the above is devoted to developers of maemo applications,
unfortunately
the following links are dead to me, only Community works

* Intro
* Downloads
* Community
* Development
* News

What makes Maemo.org to develop a number of non-interlinked webpages, some with dead links, not giving developers-in-spe a chance to learn more on how to develop an application ported to Nokia tablet ?

Mailing lists are ok but htmlized interface works better to me as it works faster and let me read selected posts only.

Do you know a nice solution to that problem ?

I can read developers list from another webpage at Maemo.org
but still main links are dead and there is no interlinks to go back/forth to full archives of the list or to threads listing.

NOKIA, supporter of Maemo.org,. please help.
More developers at Maemo the greater chance for another brilliant applications ported to Nokia tablet.

Darius

Who is the Nokia you are asking for? This site is not part of Nokia. I am relatively new here myself. Seems like everything is volunteer, which is why dead links exist. People seem to work on ports themselves and post in forums and ask for help and advice when they need it.

Darius, I think nosam was saying you appear to be confusing THIS site with maemo. It isn't.

As a senior user you are completely wrong.
Nokia tablet without applications made by developers is a half-product.
In the interest of Nokia and any user of Nokia tablet is to has access to many applications ported to Nokia 770/800 and have as much as possible trained developers to develop new applications, new features.
Are you really against the above ?

There are no forums at Maemo.org sponsored by Nokia
There are some discussing e-mail based lists only.

How could we spend so much time on discussions at this place not having access to applications ported to Nokia tablet, coming from Maemo.org.

I am going and try hard to learn how to face lift some applications already ported to Nokia 770/800 like

GPS-starter, GPS-saver , maemo-bt-plugin POI database for maemo-mapper

Today have to learn some Python to copy&paste some test Python scripts and learn how to execute Python scripts.

It took me almost month month to master how to download, install some applications on my Nokia tablet.
But trying to install GPS-starter, GPS-saver, still many dependencies/libraries are missing and so I still look for a helpful hand to
direct me to better future with my Nokia tablet.

A number of nice application ported to Nokia 770/800 is about 100.
For you, as a senior user/developer it is a matter of one day
to test each one and give a short note/description how to install each one and what for.

As it was already pointed our before.
Search engine at this website is not doing a good job
and ppl keep asking the same questions over and over again.

It's very confusing and time-consuming to spend days, weeks, months on mastering new features, new hardware/ add-ons of Nokia tablet, to master how to install each one application.

It's worth to mention, that some ppl come from MS Windows environment to Nokia tablet and have no idea why a manufacturer shows no interest to offer commercial product on a market with full support.
It's like selling new cars and requesting happy buyers to ask friends, family members and others, how to drive it , operating new features, new hardware.

Isn't it not a good idea to have Nokia to maintain a list of tested applications with short descriptions of each one
to maintain a valid list of new add-ons, hardware, features, accesories ?

I would prefer to pay for a service than entering into week/month/year lasting discussions.
Buying a car I buy it to drive it nopt to discuss about it.
I am to busy to spend weeks on discussions how to use my Nokia tablet and install by headphones, bt keyboard, mouse or anything else.

I can pay more but need to buy and get ready made commercial product not half-product.

I am not beta-tester, I am not a student any more have free weekends to spend on testing new application, new hardware.

Please forget Internet and let me buy commercial product called Nokia tablet + CD full of ready-made applications at NOKIA store.
That's all what I need.

Getting support based on free-will of third parties simply doesn't work.
I have contacted some developers and some showed no interest in my proposals to face-lift some new features.

Linux/Debian code is free/ open-source , but nothing more.

Tell me frankly, how much times it takes to master SDK, c, Python, libraries and write/develop a new basic application ported to Nokia 770/800 ?

One day, one week or one month or more ?

At this website there no developers of applications, there are users like me and some professionals from Nokia and othr places.

Today I need to run some Python scripts to manage POI database in maemo-mapper, to edit POI SQL database, to open new intrface to POI database.
Today I have to learn how to write a Python script to have 2 GPS units connected to my Nokia tablet and habe another Python script reading GPS data, satellite signal level and saving these data to a file.

Today I have to succeed finally with support provided from developers at maemo.
Don't you think, one month is enough to master a gizmo like Nokia tablet ?
Ppl just buy PDA, car navigation and master it in an hour and use for driving.

So I really don't understand who is interested to make Nokia tablet so complicated to use for any particular purpose .

Please have a look at iPhone by Apple marketing.
Usual ppl just buy it and use immediately.
Interface is simple and user-friendly, accesories are readily avaliable and work smoothly.

What makes Nokia not to provide support and have third parties to develop applications as freelancers and have tablet users as beta testers.

Beta testing is not my hobby.
I am busy and hard working man.
