Running the latest 2007HE.

Installed the 800 version of the Gizmo software. Then dialed to my 770 routed through Grand Central. I successfully answered through Gizmo and I could hear myself through the 770, but could not talk back through the 770 mic.

Removed Gizmo and installed the 770 Gizmo software. Placed the call, the 770 "rang", but didn't answer (even though the software thought it had).

I opened ports on my router, reinstalled the 800 version of the software and tried again. I heard my voice (very loudly) in the phone receiver, then nothing and, subsequently, Gizmo isn't effectively answering (although, once again, the software on the 770 reports that it HAS answered.)

Does anyone with experience in this have a suggestion for me?

Thx
Bob

I've been using gizmo on the 770 daily for about a month or so now. I use a ring-through site similar to grand central too.

What you described above sounds like normal behavior as far as I can tell. Only maybe half the time Gizmo actually rings when a call comes in (if you're lucky!). I have the load applet installed and watch the processor usage go to 100% for about 5-10 seconds. Normally if I sit and let it ring until the processor usage goes back down, I will get audio both ways...but usually the processor goes back up to 100% for anywhere from the first 10 to 45 seconds of the call. Depending on luck, fate, the weather, how patient I'm feeling, etc, I will be able to hear the other party right away, sometimes in ten seconds, sometimes after a minute if they're still there, sometimes not at all and I have to call them back..if that even works.

Often, in order to 'remedy' this, I reboot and try again without anything running. I just keep telling myself that this device is 'one of the first of it's kind' and try to be happy that I have a wireless, portable phone that I can both make and receive calls anywhere in the world for free (when it works). If I was paying any kind of monthly bill for this service, I would not be happy.

Check out http://click2voice.com for a free ringthrough site that allows you 10 minute calls. Unfortunately it's made with flash so you can't use it from the 770's browser.

And if there's any n800 gizmo users, could you say if it's any better for you? I've considered upgrading, but if they didn't get it right on the 800 I'm going to find a different platform for portable VOIP.
