Rumour is that this adaptor can be charged with the regular usb port of future tablets. It acts as an gsm adaptor which wirelessly connects to the tablet via bluetooth. The call management and contact management will be done with the n800. This adaptor is so small that it can be attached to a keychain.

Hmm, so would this give it phone service, basically? It's nice looking design.

That's interesting, so it's basically a phone without a keypad and display!

Interesting idea, and it would certainly satisfy the requirements of those who want a minimalist phone for GSM/3G connectivity, with calls managed on the N800. The only downside would be holding the N800 to your head to talk (think of the n-Gage side talking jokes) - the N800 needs BT headset functionality to make this a go-er.

In fact this keyfob just needs a Bluetooth headset with a small display and some buttons and you have a complete mobile phone in two parts (you wouldn't even need a N800!) The only thing that would trouble me is how many devices I then need to charge - when oh when is inductive charging going to arrive so that I can just drop the devices on a plate and they begin charging?

I'm not convinced I'd want to charge the keyfob via the tablet, as that looks like a full size USB connector which doesn't seem appropriate to have on a tablet. In addition, I wouldn't want the GSM keyfob taking juice from the tablet - that sounds like robbing Peter to pay Paul, what's the point of being able to receive a call on the keyfob when the mouthpiece and display has shut down due to low battery?

not that I'm really interested in using the n800 as a phone (I already have a cell phone and I hardly use it) but where did you find about it?

I've been thinking about a device like this but I never ever imagined anybody would actually manufacture the thing! My idea was a simple "GSM terminal" that would use BT headset for talking and a PDA or watch as interface, so basically your phone would be divided into three parts, all connected with bluetooth. This will be quite an interesting piece of tech if it comes through...
