innnnnteresting.

Do you think this is Nokia's step 5 goal for the tablet platform?

Whoa.... There's a lot of good stuff in the patents.... It's getting late though, but tomorrow I'm definately gonna put a list together of interesting stuff.

so... how does that work?
abstract:
A convertible mobile computing device has a display screen and cover supported at three points for stable movement between a closed position, a laptop PC operational position and a tablet PC operational position. A web hinge assembly pivotally couples along a folding axis on the cover side of the display screen and to the rear marginal edge of the base unit with which the display screen cooperates. The cover further includes means for pivotal and slideable engagement with guides at either side of the base unit wherein the lower portion of the display screen travels forward into a tablet operational position with the display screen facing substantially upward in a flat orientation for writing and viewing. The web hinge assembly nests within a recess portion of the cover and the base unit when the device is in the tablet operational position wherein the cover is in face-to-face relation with a keyboard carried on the base unit operational surface and when in the closed position...

The abstract is a bit confusing, but there is some neat stuff in the patent search tool from google if you search around.

Sounds a lot like what I've asking for here (but after 2005 :-) : an IT in the Psion Series5 form factor, a clamshell with a keyboard that slides forward a bit to balance the screen tilting backwards...

I'll buy it!

Step 1: 770 (hard cover)
Step 2: n800 (camera)
Step 3: n810 (gps, keyboard)
Step 4: n820 (WiMax)
Step 5: n900 (hard cover, camera, gps, keyboard, WiMax, kitchen sink)

... wouldn't this give me back my beloved hard-cover for the screen? I think so.

ColdFusion, I heard that Nokia will give the kitchen sink a nice metalic polish with a WiBro radio.

Hm. I wonder if that patent affects HTC's Tytn II and Shift?

And, that's pretty much what I keep asking for with a slide'n'tilt keyboard. Except I want to be able to tilt without sliding (to use it as a stand).
