Hi,

yesterday bought G wireless land pci card, installed it, downloaded Tversity server software and installed on my PC running XP windows.

To have it working I disable dsl internet network card.

In 802.11g Wireless LAN PCI Card utility I set ad-hoc network and IP address 169.254.165.115 is dynamically assigned.
Unfortunately, linking N800 with PC
I can connect with PC with link-local IP address only.
System Monitor Plugin says IP address: not connected.
Exactly, can't connect to

http://69.254.165.115:41952/ to TVersity server.
Please let me know what I am doing wrong.
The same message: connected to (network name) with
link-local IP address I get if I try to wifi connect
to open networks, not assigning me DHCP address.
And this is exactly the case, no iP address is assigned..

In 802.11g Wireless LAN PCI Card utility, setting up

a new wireless ad-hoc network I select:
Setup TCP/IP (x) DHCP
DNS (x) DNA Auto
other option is to set TCP/IP and DNS manually.
Mayby my firewall is to blame for connectivity problems ?

And in Windows control panel/network connections/
wireless network connection - state is connected
DHCP assigned IP addresss 169.254.165.115

System Monitor Plugin/ WIFI STAT: IP address = not connected.

So network is set up unfortunately no IP address assigned to Nokia tablet.
I am sure, the problem is with network setup on my PC not with Nokia, as I can still connect to WiFi hotspots and connection is established and IP address assigned.

Thanks.
Darius

For Ad Hoc I always "hard code" my IP addresses - use static/assigned ones, not DHCP. I don't know that TVersity does DHCP within the software itself, but you should have no problems using static IPs for Ad Hoc. Just make sure both exist within the same subnet, as in:

TVersity assigned as: 192.168.1.30

Nokia assigned as: 192.168.1.31

with both using the same gateway (I tend to use the other device as my gateway but this is not likely the right thing to do) and mask (no need for anything beyond 255.255.255.0) so they more readily find one another.

If your TVersity box is already configured (it should not be using a 169.254.... address) you should configure your Nokia to similar details as stated above.

This isn't a how/why answer, for that you can find those answers anywhere on the web if needed.

What gateway hardware do you mean , wireless AP ?
Ok.
I can setup static IP on my PC.
Ok, assigned static IP on my PC as 192.168.1.30
no gateway, mask 255.255.255.0
What script lines should I write down in terminal
$ sudo gainroot

ifdown wlan0
ifconfig wlan0 192.168.1.31 ?
iwconfig wlan0 mode ad-hoc ?
iwconfig wlan0 ssid <yourssid> or essid=myssid or essif myssid ?
iwconfig wlan0 channel 1 set already channel 2 on PC
ifconfig wlan0 up should does it work ?

Please let me know what script lines do you enter to make things working.

Ok. I can wireless connect from N770 to PC using network connection Earth icon in upper bar.
Unfortunately no static IP is assigned , connecting internal IP address only.

# ifdown wlan0
ifdown: Ignoring unknown interface wlan0 ????????????

other lines went ok

Openning Opera with http://192.168.1.30:41952/
N770 is trying to open new network connection
and reboots few sec later.

Ok.
This time I forget terminal and network scripting
and run network connection utility
and get my N770 connecte to PC with link local-IP address.

System Monitor Plugin
shows no IP address
replacing IP address with not connected message.

So, please lt me know step by step how did you succeed to connect your N770 to PC , establishing wireless ad-hoc network .

From Tversity on streaming to N770

Hope to set up ad-hoc N770 wireless networking in next 24 hours.

Thanks.
Darius
