I don't know if any of you have done it already but I thought i'd just spread what I did today for anyone who uses their nokia n800 tethered to a Tmobile phone with the 5.99 tzones plan. I had used all the tips i read in getting the proxy server going so I could browse the web and It has been working great. The only thing I was missing was being able to us AIM via tzones so I will briefly explain how I did it.

I noticed that despite most other things being enforced on going through the proxy and using port 80, the email client (i use imap for incoming and smtp for going out) worked fine and I was sending and receiving email. So i'm guessing tmobile allows port 25 to go out transparently through their gateway.

After tinkering with the pidgin settings and getting nothing I decided to just use port 25 as the port for the aim server in the settings. So instead of login.oscar.aol.com (or login.messaging.aol.com) on port 5190, change it to 25.

For the proxy settings below it, set it to "Use Global Proxy Settings".

I have been able to use one AIM account with it while my second account has been a little shaky connecting to the same server.

I hope this helps for anyone wanting to use AIM in pidgin/gaim while connected to their tzones.

To add to this I am able to access other services by using SSH tunneling. If you have an ssh server and are not using 25 for sendmail, redirect the port to 22 and you should be set. I can get google talk working using the local ssh client and the xterminal. Makes tzones much more useful.
