ok, one thing I have noticed in Youtube on the OS2007 and OS2008 is it's not quite as good as it should be, I also own an Xbox with XBMC that doesn't play Youtube videos out of the box, but it does come with a handy python scripting.

One plugin that I loved on my Xbox was the Youtube player which was written in Python and used mplayer for the backend.

This is just some ideas for people who know more about python than me, but is this a better option than trying to play youtube natively in the browser or use something like this program on Maemo (since mplayer seems to play youtube videos perfectly fine)

http://www.xbmcscripts.com/index.php...ouTube2%200.94

and yes I know this exact script wont run on Maemo as its uses xbox specific settings, but Its just a thought to python devs

hope my rambling makes sense.

Cheers

You can try using m.youtube.com which plays everything at full framerate.. but OS2008 plays Youtube more than well enough as is.

yeah I've found with OS2007 with the latest MicroB browser it bombs out with an XML error on that website, and with Opera it wont play any of the files, as media player starts up and says unsupported media. Hence why I thought a dedicated program to youtube would be a cool idea as it worked perfectly on the Xbox with XBMC and python.

Apple cut a deal with Youtube to reencode their videos to a iPhone compatible format so that they can get around the no flash limitation.

Same here on OS2008 and MicroB, but it must set a cookie OK because if you go back to http://m.youtube.com after the error you can get in. However, I don't think it's an improvement over the normal version of YouTube.

my issue with m.youtube.com is it doesn't have all the video's available either, which I can understand because they have to convert them to the other format.

But again it was a thought as I could imagine a dedicated youtube player with mplayer as the back end would result in much better video performance, just wish I knew python

There was a program called uktube, but I've never tried it and and I'm not sure if it works in OS2008 yet.

Hang on, just did a quick search and it is now rolled into UKMP with a new release just today, here:
http://konttoristhoughts.blogspot.co...00-now-in.html

"UKMP is a media player. It focuses on fast response, ease of use and visualizing your music and video collection in an intuitive way. UKMP requires python (and mplayer for videos). Includes UKTUBE."
