The short answer: no.

The vague, longer answer: I believe (a non-Nokia) someone has talked of possibly porting a printing system and adding support for it to some (again, non-Nokia) apps. You'll likely find more on this if you search the forums.

Also, it's just occurred to me that my Axis 5600+ print server at home accepts files for printing via FTP. I'll have to try sending files to it via MaemoFTP sometime. If it works, it will likely only do so for simple text files, but that would be something.

There are a number of threads that discussed theoretical ways and some other attempts to print from 770/N800's. Try searching on a word like "printing". Here are some examples (not too promising, near term):

Actually...

Now, don't get your hopes up too high: QuickScript is a typesetting language, akin to TeX. The difference is that QuickScript doesn't need a parser, but is in fact PostScript.

If you learn the tags, you can write a formatted document in a text editor, attach the QuickScript preamble and send it to a PostScript printer to be printed. I bet that, if you have a networked PostScript printer, you can send the document directly from your tablet to the printer.

Not that I have tried, I'm a wysiwigger myself. Unfortunately, the only existing QuickScript editor (don't expect anything like LyX, though) is written in Java, yet another weak point of the Nokia tablets. Maybe someone with the coding gene could write a Python QS editor? Maybe it wouldn't be that hard, with the Java example at hand?

The first time I came across QuickScript was on the pages of Eric Lindsay

http://www.ericlindsay.com/

where all sorts of Psion gems are to be found. He wrote that, after discovering and learning QuickScript, he never used anything else again.

The really short answer is no.

The fairly long answer is that printing through Evince and through AbiWord ought to be possible in the future --- printing in actual Nokia apps is somewhat unlikely.

Actually, the short answer is now YES.

Somewhat.

Recipe for printing from the N800:

Install latest OS to your N800 and activate Bluetooth.

Purchase one printer capable of bluetooth connections (I got the HP C6180 as I said in another thread). Add one USB Bluetooth radio and configure well. Pair N800 device with printer, using code you setup on the printer during configuration.

Open File Manager on N800. Navigate to Images. Select any image and hold stylus to file link for a couple of seconds. When popup pops up, select Send and then select Via Bluetooth. When dialog comes up, select your printer.

Let simmer for a few seconds, then observe image printout in paper tray.

Yes, it's a simple recipe, with few options, but doggone it boys and girls it's PRINTING!!!

Texrat, that's a great news!

Is there any limitation to the document types that can be sent to the printer?
PDF? Txt?

Interesting. I'm going to try that with my old LJ4 PostScript printer and an Quickscript document, hoping that its bluetoothed parallel port will accept PostScript.
