As much as I tried, I couldn't find any info regarding this, or even get help in Nokia forums. I live in Toronto, Canada, and it's mssing from list of cities; it's odd because some other Canadian cities are there and Toronto is a major one. My Nokia phone, 6680, has it.

I have 2 questions; does anyone know how they came up with the list of home cities for Nokia 770? Also, does anyone know, if the list is modifiable or not (like being based a config file or such)?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

That is a bit weird. But I guess since the 770 was not marketed or sold directly in Canada, they did not include many cities here ... just the important ones ;]

I would be a bit hesitant about manually adding a new city just for cosmetic reasons but if you really want to then that info is likely culled from the timezone list.

Thanks for the tip; you mean there is such a file that I can search for and modify?

I said it's odd because Toronto is like what London is for UK or New York is for USA; it's the finacial capital of Canada.

I took a look around and it looks like the info that you seek is in /usr/share/osso-clock/wdb-parsed.txt
Looks like a pretty simple enough format with those two numbers near the end of each line maybe corresponding to x and y pixel count of the city location on the clock map ... not sure though.

Be forewarned though, changing this file may crash your clock applet, which will cause your desktop to crash, which may give you the white screen of death which will lead to all sorts of workarounds and reflashing to get your 770 back to square one. Or you might get lucky. It is my impression that the 770 designers didn't spend an excessive amount of time bullet-proofing the apps against user hackery and they may die in unexpected ways.

Ya ... I was just poking fun at you (notice the location setting by my name). I realize the importance of Toronto ... especially to Torontonians ... as I lived there for a time :]

I hate the fact that there is no Detroit either. I use NYC though.

I found it a bit wierd also. My N800 arrived by mail a week ago now and the first thing I did was go through the settings to customize everything. I was blown away that the selection of a very few Canadian cities includes Collingwood, Ontario but does not include Toronto still. That's like including Tipawego, Utah (if such a place exists) without including Woshington, DC.

The addition of Toronto to the Maemo selectable locations would be something I and probably many others would like to see. Currently, not being able to select my true home location is reaking havoc with any location based software. The world clock thinks I live in Europe. Mapper also always starts with a European home location. Heck, anything that's making use of the user's home location is borked for the 2.5 million potential Nokia customers and the few of us geeks that already baught and love the N800.

I'll probably repost in the N800 forum to be more on topic. As a FOSS loving geek, I'm thankful for all the time volunteered by the developer community but of my short wish list, being able to easily add missing locations or at least select Toronto is pretty high up. Heck, even the T5 allows one to add cities for active use from a comprehensive stored list.

I'm surprised that the problem such as adding a new HOME CITY to the list has persisted this long without a programmed solution. My Nokia 9300 built-in clock function has the ability to add cities with the Latitude/Longitude and it computes sunrise/sunset for you--a VERY useful function.

Why hasn't anyone developed a replacement clock function yet for the N800?
