Hello, I just entered the wonderful world of the N800 and everthing is working fine (with OS2007; Skype kept crashing for me on OS2008) except that VPN lacks sound. So I am able to connect to my mac with my N800 VPN Viewer and do anything but when I lunch a song on itunes or a video it displays it but without sound on my N800. Anybody how to resolve this?

Thank you very much,

Andre

That's because your sound is playing on your computer, not your tablet.

Maybe if you had NAS for both your tablet and PC... but really though... you'd just be better off playing the music and videos directly on the tablet.

Thanks zerojay,

But is there a way to make it also play on my n800? What is NAS? You are right that its better to do it directly but I just want the option for the songs I dont have on my handheld.

Just to clarify, I think you mean VNC, not VPN. And I'm not aware of any VNC version that supports sound.

It is possible to forward sound over the network through any network-capable sound server (the best bet with Maemo would probably be portaudio as it is a fairly straightforward esound replacement), but these are not integral to any remote console, and have to be set up separately. Most problems surrounding it would be on the server side, where all applications have to be sound server capable (rather than do direct ALSA or OSS output).
