Update on my inability to update to OS08. The wrapup is that my n800 and I were having a great time waiting on OS08 to increase the loving. Then it couldn't take it! Different cables, ports, host machines, flashing from the net from my downloaded file: nothing but brick. no buttons. no recharging, no access to os. Could reflash to OS07. did that between attempts to keep the beasty charged up.
Sent off to Nokia-land for R&R. Returned today! Wow!
Running OS07! Flash attempt fails. at the same point, 1 min 44 sec. failure reports disconnected usb cord or corrupted file (neither).

Called Nokia and they are apologetic and I have to send back! nearing $40 on my end to send. could have gotten a phater flash card for that.

Now if i get this back working before February I'll be happy boy. also wrote buy.com to tell them my troubles. maybe they will lean on nokia too.

Sounds like Buy.com has issues dude...

From what I've read on these forums...

1. A lot of tablets report issues that can be traced to hardware.
2. A lot of these hardware issues are reported by users who purchased from Buy.com.
3. Buy.com consistently advertises the lowest price.

Could Buy.com be selling refurbs?

You forgot

4. Since Buy.com tends to have the lowest prices, it probably has the highest sales figures. Therefore, it should be getting the highest number of complaints. Even if it's selling brand new tablets.

Did you try to flash using the same computer? Maybe that machine has issues? Not all USB chipsets deal with all circumstances in the exact same way, despite there being a standard. I wouldn't rule out a hardware or software issue on your computer entirely.

I got my n800 from buy.com last month and it seems to flash just fine. Flashed the beta 2008 and didn't like it and flashed back to 2007. Flashed the official release of 2008 and that has been doing fine, only thing that crashed on it so far has been garnet and it did get it's brains scrambled once requiring sshing in and doing a shutdown -r on it.

Other than that, no complaints other than pararnoia resulting from reading all the problems on this site.

It stays on 24/7 and is on the charger while I am up (~16 hours a day). Just to spite the green nags :-).

I have not flashed the new 2008 as it is doing everything it can that I need ATM.
