After reading the threads, I'm slightly worried about my own n800 that is coming in a package. I would like to test it all out to see if the battery issue exists. (I know it doesn't affect all n800s as my friend's does not have this issue) If I'm correct, the problem occurs after powering off and then attempting to power it back on. So would several cycles of power off and on work to test if this problem exists before I get to work customizing the apps and settings on my n800?

Really weired. I have had my 800 for about 3 months now - use it every day and not only does it never fail to power up or down, I am completely happy with it. I will not argue that I don't place phone calls with my face in the camera and such but I do surf and check email. I monitor radio late at night before retiring in bed and just have not had any problem at all. I have moved to OS2008 with no problem and do routine file tranfers across my home network both wired and wifi with flawless operation. After reading these posts on the power thing I will say that I almost never shut the machine off and then try to immediately turn it back on for fun so I may not be a good example. This does however sound like a software problem that you might expect to get fixed in updates. The user that said something about sleep mode and such may be right on target.

Also count me as prefering the 800 to the 810. Don't want or need the keyboard and I have my stand alone GPS and would not trust the Nokia to save my life anyway.

I like the 800 and perhaps if this power problem does not get resolved folks might start looking at production batch numbers and see if there is a patern. For all I know some of these are made in Mexico and some in China - no telling what plant manufacturing differences may be in play.

My only complaint so far is that I want applications -

1. Business Card Data Base
2. Calendar
3. Scheduler

so on and so on.

My biggest yippee is that I no longer have to travel with a notebook. TSA hates Notebooks and tries to kill them at the security check. The N800 stays in my back pac and nobody ever knows. Big plus for me.

Lastly to promote conversation I forsee the Eee Asus folks making a Slate Tablet" model that will severly change our discussion of the Nokia machines. They will also be small enough to get through Airport security without destruction and sill allow you to get email and news in your room in Vegas where their in room TV is almost censored since they want you on the floor loosing money.

Well, BYE / John in Salem

I find myself in the same situation as yourself. I recently received an N800 from Buy.com, and I was really worried about the power on issue. So far, though, I have not had any problem (knock on wood). And I'm trying to avoid the problem by not plugging it in while it's on, as that seems to be the cause of most of the power on problems. But I do still worry, that my N800 might have the problem but it is just not manifesting itself.

Well, as my old Boss used to say "John next year at this time we will be looking back and laughing at how easy it was to fix"

He also used to say "John if it were easy I'd have two pretty girls doing it"

Of course my old Boss was an idiot.

Sounds like a plan dude. If it powers off and on three times with no issues... rock on. From what I read so far they either have issues or they don't.

Yep, good plan. It won't break anything either. If everything is OK it should boot up just fine every time (just charge the battery before you start though. Booting sucks up some extra juice).
