Hi! Just new N800 owner and new here
I've been a forum reader (as guest) from long time. I have some questions unsolved so far, before proceed to install applications and so:
The NIT has limited flash memory, right? Is it convenient to install apps on sd cards or better and safer leave it alone and install all the apps on flash memory? (I have read some posts about but no clear answer so far, so I'll be glad to hear your suggestions/comments)
How easily you can get off of internal memory due the apps installed on flash memory?
What are the majority doing about that?
In the case that apps installation on mmc's is adviced, is there any easy guide to do that? (I am not a techie guy )
Is there any risk to damage the cards when doing that?
Is it convenient also to activate the swap "partition" on cards to expand memory?
Sorry if I bother you..
Thanks in advance for any kind assistance!

You can't really just run apps off of your MMC - it actually requires rather techie actions for this to work - check out this thread and/or this Wiki page for more information & instructions on how to do this.

As for if to activate swap partition - I would definately say YES!

Thank you for your answers! Are you installing your apps on cards or just using the flash memory?...just curious about
Could be that considered an OS flaw? (because you're constricted to install apps on limited flash memory, and can run out of space soon, and the only way to use external storage media is hacking the OS).

I've been using maemo devices since day 1 of the 770, and I've never run out of internal flash storage for applications. There's really not much need for extending the internal fs to a flash card.

its not really an OS flaw. The file-system must support proper Unix permissions for a file to be flagged as executable. That is a good thing. The FAT filesystem doesn't support Unix permissions. Blame Microsoft.

I have an 8GB internal SD card, with 7GB setup with a cloned OS2008, so plenty of room to install apps, homebrew code etc. The only downside is that you can't access that partition over USB, but that's not a problem as I live in a Unixy world and have no need for such a connection.
