Does anyone know of a way to suppress the auto-backlight level adjust on the n810? It is constantly activating and the flickering is driving me nuts. I also find it isn't particularly good at choosing a screen brightness that is appropriate to the enviroment. I just want to be able to set the brightness manually.

A brief aside, what genius decided to put the ambient light sensor right where most people cradle the device with their thumb while holding it?

Even my 7 year old Pocket PC has the ability to turn this feature off in s/w, I'd be surprised if it wasn't possible somewhere, or at least could be made possible.

Actually... real men would use some of that fancy plastiq stuff they always show in the newer war type movies.

Just don't drop it.

gconftool-2 --type "list" --list-type "int" --set "/system/osso/dsm/display/possible_display_dim_timeouts" "[10,30,60,120,300,600,1200,1800,3600,86400]"

gconftool-2 --type "list" --list-type "int" --set "/system/osso/dsm/display/possible_display_blank_timeouts" "[10,30,60,120,300,600,1200,1800,3600,86400]"

I added these to my startup and choose in control panel from up to 24hours or 1440 minutes

Should work on n810

Wow! that's great, I hate the timeout options!

Two things:
1) I don't think that helps the OP, he's talking about the ambient lighting sensor. I think a little sticker would look better than tape over the light sensor.
2) Could you expound a little for the newbs? Where is the startup file? Do you need an editor or will 'notepad' work? I'll add it to wiki if I can figure it out.
Also, he might be able to find it if he looks around in the startup file.

actually , if you go to maemo.org and look under os2007 software , search for "moredimmingoptions" , a guy wrote a script that you install that does all that code for you so you dont even have to go into exterm , just install moredimmingoptions and you are good to go. however , that still doesnt affect the autobrightness. i too would like a way to have the brightness set where I , i repeat, IIIIIII want it. would also like to be able to set that the key backlighting stays on whenever the keyboard is out. hate when im typing in the dark , stop for a minute then have to fumble around to get the backlight to turn back on.
