I've done some searching around trying to get canola and some other apps to install rather than just give me a corrupted file message. I've made some strides by changing the maemo/extras address to repostory which enabled me to install quiver and omweather but canola now will download but the install fails just leaving me with the canola icon in the extras folder but no program. Does anyone have any further advice? Exactly which repositories should I have active in the application manager to get all these programs installed correctly?

Thanks

It's not just maemo/extras. Go thru ALL the repositories and wherever you find an html address that mentions "repository", change it to "repostory".

That's what worked for me, anywaY.

Thanks for the reply. I changed all the repositories but to no avail. I still get the unable to install message at the end of the process although Canola shows up as an installed app in application manager.

I kept getting a message that the file was corrupted and could not install. I had to go into red pill mode to install. Once I went into red pill mode I installed python 2.5 and then Canola.

Disclaimer: I'm a newbie to linux and the N800 so do it at your own risk. It worked for me.

I have the somewhat similar problems with Canola 2 install (among others).

I've been involved with computers since 1973 (I was 13 years old), and I find it amusing and COMPLETELY DISHEARTENING that with memory hundreds of thousands of times larger than what I dealt with (and wrote both programs and OS utilities for), that the Maemo/Linux/Debian (take your pick here) error messages SUCK.

Who ever, in the chain of programs (python? canola? application manager? maemo? debian?) is responsible for "Can Not Install Canola2" message, without giving even the f'n breadcrumb of clue as to why this occured should (temporarily) stop programming and ask themselves why they insist on sharing their crap with the general public. I'm all for extreme programming so to speak, but I hate to think that every thing I download for my tablet comes with a big Downloader Beware sticker on it, saying that you may have to spend hours trying to figure out why things aren't working.

Seriously: I understand that someone may have typed in a repository name wrong, but is the OS (or utilities) incapable of displaying something along the line of "We tried to download X which is required by the program, we expected it to be at Y, but it was not found?"

I also have not had any success with Canola2....and I have read as many threads as I can find, I have tried the temp repository, the incorrectly spelled one and all. I am at a point where I am getting an error when the installer configures.

As far as the can not install error, check the log. There is more information in the log and I have worked through some issues, in particular, the installer sometimes doesn't like my internal MMC card...

at the moment I am narrowing the problem down to some missing dependencies. I figure the install should blow with a message about missing dependencies but it doesn't quite do that for me...instead I just get that dreaded unable to install.

ANyway...check the log. The core of my problem seems to be the libeet (Libeet0 package) and its dependencies.

App Manager tells you that Canola is installed?

Or do you mean that App manager tells you it is installable?

If it really says it is installed, you should look thru your programs and see if it is there, somewhere! You did install the base repository, as specified here, right?

http://openbossa.indt.org/canola2/install.html

If it really says it is installed and really isn't, you should try uninstalling and reinstalling it.

I didn't get Canola to install myself until a few days ago.

I'll review your messages and try to think of other solutions.

Canola is not the only good media player, btw. Lots of them are good, and each has its advantages.

I finally got Canola2 installed after the very helpful instructions here. It disabled the volume control on my Rhapsody, so I removed it.
