Hey guys,

I'm going to be doing some traveling around South East Asia next week for a couple of weeks and I was just wondering if you guys had any personal preferences on bringing either:

a. A rather heavy, large, 17" desktop replacement (Dell 1710) laptop.

b. N800 and a BT keyboard.

Most thing's I'll be doing is uploading pictures to photobucket, videos to youtube and putting the uploaded media on to a wordpress blog. Both will be using a phone to connect to the internet.

Thanks!

Jay

I'd do the N800, and ssh to the laptop (sitting at home, with the power on) as needed.
But I assume you know your usage better than we do, don't you? Try doing the same stuff you'd be doing, and see how you get along with it.

A poll to make up your mind what to take on a trip? Can you really not think for yourself?

neither:

c. an N810 and a quad-band+bluetooth unlocked GSM mobile phone and a local SIM to keep costs down...

since if you're in the USA chances are your existing mobile phone won't work

d. a cheap ultraportable like the eee (so you won't cry if it were smashed or stolen, unlike say a Sony TX/TZ or Toshiba R500)

The last couple trips I did I used a Zaurus clamshell model instead of a laptop, and it worked out perfectly. So I don't see why an n800 / n810 won't work out the same way. Of cours, I also had OpenOffice on my Zaurus.

An Eee would be better, I think. It's not that much bigger, not much heavier, and costs about the same. It's far more capable.

I have a similar dell laptop. It isnt too bad top travel around the world with it if you have a nice backpack/roller for it. Personally, I would take both. Sure, you could live with the n800, but why not take a laptop? It only takes up as much space as a sweatshirt.

You can easily blog to a wordpress blog fully with Wordpy on the Tablet and an iGo Stowaway bt keyboard (Amazon has it for like, ~$60).

It obviously wouldn't be nearly as EASY with the Tablet for uploading as it would with a laptop, but you could easily ahve the Tablet+keyboard with you always and not kill your back, whereas that massive laptop would.
