I just read on a mailing list that Nokia drones at CES spilled the beans that Nokia intends to drop the N800 in favour of the N810 really soon now.

If true, that would be the second time Nokia f*cks with the community in a really lousy way. Can anyone confirm or -- preferrably -- deny this rumour? I mean, we cut them some slack after the 770/N800 fiasco, but if they're going to play the same card again, I for one am outta here...

I wouldn' be surprised if they stop manufacturing it, but they do not stop supporting it. Diablo is still coming for N800.

Who cares? I don't. I have my n800 and so should everyone who wants one....for probably a really good deal. As long as the firmware is compatible with the n800 I could care less.....They have already committed to supporting the N800 through Diablo.

Nokia management needs to read the cluetrain manifesto:

We've already been promised support through Diablo*, so there's no way this is anything more than discontinuing of manufacture (this seems unlikely, too, though).

Really, there's no reason they would drop support for the N800 (and no real way, either), as the N810 and N800 are virtually identical.

*This might have some interesting consequences for N810 owners, will they only be getting support through Diablo too, or will Nokia extend support longer? Since you can't support one without supporting the other (basically), does this also mean more support for N800 users?

What is Diablo? The next OS version I assume?

EDIT: Never mind. Yes, I know General. I should have searched first.

I knew this would happen. Wonder how long it takes Nokia to dump the 810 once the a new version hits stores.

Knew what would happen, that all devices eventually reach EoL?

This is just a rumor, people. Just like the last one in December. Wait until you actually hear something concrete.

Again, we've been guaranteed one more major OS revision (Diablo/OS2009), so everybody keep your panties on.

eol for n800 would be dumb decision, unless they are loosing money at this pricepoint, that is just fantastic for me as a customer.

there are many MIDs comming, so if nokia wants to be succesfull, having 2 form factors really helps.
