I have downloaded Maemo Mapper and also picked up the required maps to use it by using instructions from a blog video on downloadsquads site.

I am having an issue getting the Internal GPS device to pickup in maemo mapper on my N810. I have searched here and found a thread talking about settings when maemo mapper first starts. My problem is no matter how many times i uninstall and reinstall i cannot get that initial setup box to pop up. I got it the first time before i had a clue of what i was doing and now it won't come up again.

Please help =)

Once in Maemo Mapper if you open "Settings" and there should be "GPS" tab, select the first option line. In the text field it is asking GPS MAC address, but leave that empty. At least this worked for me with N810 and connected to the internal GPS.

Ok, I set up the settings as you said. I'm pretty sure i'm not pointing at the maps i moved to the 810 but i'll figure that out later. When I select the "GPS" menu and tell it to enable GPS, should it be throwing a cannot connect error?

I can use the GPS menu from device settings and have it pin point where i am ( give me lat and lon) with no problems. The little GPS icon even pops up on the status bar. But when im in mapper it doesn't.

I think you are not looking at the right "GPS" menu. In the Maemo Mapper main menu you open first the "Settings". (If I recall correctly... I do not have the device with me right now to check.) That opens a window with many different settings... and one submenu in there should be GPS. In that submenu you should be able to tell Maemo Mapper what kind of GPS you have. There you should select the first option, which should be something like "Bluetooth device". Select that and leave the address field empty.

After saving the settings you should close the menu and then you should select the GPS from the main menu and enable it. Hopefully this helps.

Can I use Maemo Mapper on a n800 without a GPS? I'd like to use it for offline routing and such.

Not sure, I would assume if you download all the maps then yes you could. (well you can't use it as a GPS but you can use it as a map).

Thats how I was using it while I couldn't get my GPS to work. Works like a charm.

I cant seem to pill any maps up though. I linked to the reps suggested by Gnuite but the screen is always just black. Im sure I'm not doing something right.

MM will let you have it go to an address. It's not really that great for keeping up with your position on the interstate, but for browsing maps, it works pretty well. You can download routes beforehand and have them displayed on the maps without a GPS.
