ITVC's being worked on for OSX, but Victor (aka vbrilon) needs to know which OSX? So I'm starting a poll to hopefully provide him with helpful feedback...

The question is that there 4 possible targets for OS X:
1) Intel with Leopard
2) Intel with Tiger
3) PPC with Leopard
4) PPC with Tiger

Rather than hold off releases until we have every single scenario covered, I'd like to get a release out soon targeting the most popular platform.

Can you please reply to this thread (or PM me if you'd prefer) and let me know which OS version and hardware platform you use for your video conversion needs.

Thanks for the feedback!
Victor

Ugh. I can't keep track of these frelling cats. It's good Google is around for version number to feline conversion.

I chose the PPC with Tiger since I do most of my video stuff with a G5 dual 2 ghz.

I believe that the way to target the widest mac audience with a 'first out of the gate' app would be to build a Tiger (OS 10.4) 'Universal Binary'. In most cases, anybody with OS 10.4 (Tiger) could run the app whether they have an older Motorola PPC G4, G5, or newer Intel-chipped machine. And typically, a Leopard (OS 10.5) Intel Mac user could still run a Universal binary built for 10.4.

Please note: my 2 ghz Intel Mac Mini came with Leopard 10.5, but it runs 10.4 Universal binary apps very well and can also handle PPC apps quite reasonably under the built-in 'Rosetta' emulation - but neither my dual G5 tower nor my trusty old powerbook G4 can run Intel-specific OS 10.5 Leopard apps at all !)

If the initial release is targeted for Intel Leopard (OS 10.5 on newer Intel hardware), quite a lot of people with older hardware/OS will be instantly left out of the mix. I believe that an Intel/10.5 specific version could follow later with specific performance optimizations for the lucky ones that have the latest OS on new or very recent Intel-based hardware.

I have a post on this in another thread, but in a nutshell, the issue isn't making a Universal binary for PPC/Intel. That's just a compile time flag. Rather, the issue is that if we have time to test only one flavor of OS/platform combo, I want to test that and release it ASAP. We'll support all 4 combinations eventually -- but given an aggressive dev/test schedule I am curious in which one people want to see first.

They only change about once a year, and there's only 5 of them, it's not that hard. . . .

Hey, I only have three kids, and I call them by the wrong names sometimes.

UPDATED YET AGAIN: With 60+ votes in (as of early Friday morning), looks like Intel+Leopard is solidly in the lead. Cast your votes please if you haven't already. I'd like to get the results finalized by Tuesday night US time.

I use Leopard on Intel, but I also just use Handbrake generally. Would be nice to see official software, but do what you think is best
