I am having problems with my new Nokia N810. Right out of the box I had a lot of trouble getting
my N810 to turn on. I'd have to press and hold the ON/OFF button then release the button over and
over again. Sometimes I'd have to repeat this pressing and holding the ON/OFF Button cycle for 8
minutes before the N810 would finally come on! On one occasion I went through this "start up
cycle" for ten minutes and the N810 never turned on!
I took my N810 in to the local Nokia store in Chicago, I explained my problem to one of their
customer service associates. We came to the conclusion that the problem was a faulty NO/OFF
Button. The associates sent my N810 off to the nearest regional repair facility somewhere in
Alabama.
I've just received my newly repaired N810, 10 days after bringing it in for repair. Unfortunately
my N810 is still exhibiting the same problem. The ON/OFF Button had been replaced at the repair
facility so I ruled out the ON/OFF Button as the problem. After further "trouble shooting" I'm
beginning to suspect that the problem is with one the "DEVICE LOCK" features of the N810.
If I turn my N810 off, the only way that I can turn it back on is to plug in the power supply and
wait for the battery charging icon to appear on screen. Once the BATT charging icon comes on
screen I can easily turn on my N810 by pressing and holding down the ON/OFF button. The BATT
charging icon has to be displayed or my N810 will not turn on!
Again, I suspect the problem is in one of the DEVICE LOCK features, I've gone into the control Panel
and Disabled the "AUTOLOCK" feature and all of the other Device Lock functions that I could find.
I also momentarily pressed the ON/OFF button to bring up the "Device MODE" control screen, I
selected the "NORMAL MODE" option from the options list, clicked on OK then exited the control
panel. This did not fix the problem either, pressing and holding down the ON/OFF button still would
not turn on the device. My N810 will only turn on when the power cord is attached, the charging
icon is displayed and the ON/OFF button is pressed and held. I'd appreciate any help that would
help me resolve this troublesome issue. I really like my N810, but is of very limited use if I have to carry
around the power charger and go through this ritual I described above to turn on the device every time.
Sincerely,
Larry Osborne
