Google is apparently developing a new service that lets you browse through categories of businesses without you having to type a word on your Tablet once a location has been established.

This looks promising. Hopefully we will eventually be able to use GPS location automagically.

It's actually pretty close to having the JAVA Google Maps app on the tablet

Google already knows your whereabouts.

It doesn't actually know your whereabouts: you can type in any locations and it saves them so next time you just select the location from a list. The disadvantage is that you have to populate the list, but the advantage over GPS is that you can search for restaurants near where you are going to be, not just where you currently are.

I'm not convinced that if you have any sort of keyboard this is much of an improvement over the usual 'find businesses' on the main maps page: there if I start typing in a location such as 'Oxford' by the time I've got as far as 'Oxf' it is offering me a list of locations in Oxford some of which I've used in searches as well as others which I'm pretty sure I haven't (but which are appropriate to the 'restaurants' I entered in the 'what to search for' box). Also a single character entry offers to complete to my full home address.

It's apparently still in development and looks like it will be an add on module to the >> http://www.google.com/m site.

It still needs a link on sub pages to bring you back to the main page, and the map image could use expanding but, all in all, it looks good on the tablet.

A welcome addition for those of us with limited cell phone bandwidth (pipe size).
