I am trying to use Acronis True Image, in Windows 2000, to make a clone of the system partition on an mmc (from which I dual-boot).

However, the program does not see the ext2 partition.

dont, Bunanson, and michaelxy have all reported successfully using Acronis to back up their boot partitions from mmc.

Is my problem, perhaps, that I'm using True Image 9.0? Or is there something else I'm missing? It does not see the partition if I follow the wizard into cloning or into backup.

Those who have used it successfully, what version of True Image did you use? Are you doing it by connecting the NIT by USB or by putting the SD card into a reader? (I've tried both without success; and when connecting the NIT I've used the flash to boot, not the mmc.)

Any other ideas?

(I could put it in a different thread, but I've also tried using Norton Ghost 9.0, with the same result. Someone on this forum had reported successfully backing up with Ghost 10.0.)

EDIT: I downloaded Acronis True Image Home ver. 11, and it does see and backup the Linux ext2 partition. If, like me, you choose to "clone," it seems to insist on making you backup at the same time the FAT partition with which the ext2 shares the SD card, which I would rather not have done.

And after using it to create, on another SD card, a special Acronis partition that it turned out I didn't need, Acronis wasn't able to undo it and give me back my disk space. (It had errors and couldn't proceed.)

But at least I was able to achieve my primary goal: cloning the system to a second card.

Well, maybe it would work for me too.

But, does rsync get you only data? I'm interested in having a backup of the system and programs, with all the tweaks and time I've put into it.

Also, my Linux knowledge exists only to what I've learned on this board. I don't run a Linux box, just have a Linux CD I can boot from (with partimage and some other stuff on it), so if rsync depends on connecting to a Linux computer, I'm not ready for it.

If it's something you think I could do, and it gets me a backup of my mmc boot partition that I could then stick on another mmc, then I'm very interested and would greatly appreciate a step-by-step if you're so inclined.

Thanks.

Last time i checked, ext2 was supported. You're using a card reader, right?

Bundyo, you posted at the same time I was doing my Edit on Post #1. It seems that ext2 is supported in version 11 but not version 9, and while 9 couldn't see ext2 no matter what, ver. 11 saw it even while the card was in the NIT.

Hmmm... I will have to check this but I don't recall having this problem with Acronis 11. But, I just took a backup of the partion I wanted - I did not clone the disk. Try a simple full backup and restore.
