i cannot believe this:

after upgrading my n810 to diablo and then cloning to my sd card and upgrading my maps the routing ability for wayfinder has disappeared. for all of its faults i like the ability to route on the go and it was worth it to me to pay for the three year license.

i also use maemo mapper for non-routing gps purposes (ie tracking where i have been etc)

but back to my story

i get a lock on the satellites (now very well w/a-gps) and then go to navigation and pick an address (any address- it dont matter) and have it calculate a route. that will white screen the n810. map takes up 99% of the cpu and then to use a technical term- craps out.

i sent an email using my official license key and here is the exchange

Dear Sir,

Thank you for the reply.

In this case it is necessary to re-install the whole firmware. Wayfinder Navigator is tied to the firmware and it should not be possible to re-install just the map application. From this address you can download the latest firmware to your device:

If you have problems with the installation, please contact Nokia customer support directly.

If you have any further questions about Wayfinder Navigator, please don't hesitate to contact us again.

can it be possible that a total reflash is necessary or is Jenni J being super cautious and doing the easy way of fixing the application?

I have deleted /home/user/.map and all of the hidden files contained in /home/user/.map and then used application manager to uninstall map and then reinstalled - but still the same problem.

can anyone give me the straight skivvy on what needs to be removed so that i can reinstall from scratch

or alternatively what needs to be cloned from the internal flash to my sd card so that i do not have to reflash and reinstall everything.

thanks in advance.

You might try copying your map data files (mapdata directories) to your external memory card, then format your internal card completely empty. Start Maps, and it should recreate all the directories etc. to the internal card. After that you can copy the mapdata directories back to internal card where they used to be. (Remember to write down the path before formatting...) Most likely you need to re-enter your license data/number.

If you encounter the problem on copying files... then the mapdata file(s ) may have corrupted and is the root cause for your Maps crashing.

WARNING: If you had voice guidance, the voice files will also be lost and you'd need to save them to external memory card as well. I do not use routing nor voice guidance, so I can not tell where they are stored.

I did encounter similar Maps problem couple weeks back when traveling in Scandinavia: Maps worked fine until once after closing the app and reopening, Scandinavian maps were not shown. Luckily I had backup copy of my mapdata and I just simply deleted my Scandinavian maps in Maps application. Then I copied the mapdata back from external memory card (using file manager), and I got my Scandinavian maps back... Don't know what caused this.

it actually helps to delete the proper files (i really gotta stop drinking and posting)

so after deleting the map folder on the internal memory and then

> rm /home/user/.navicore

and then uninstall the wayfinder app

then reinstall and voila all is fixed
