I received my brand new n810 today, I put the battery in and began using it for about 15 minutes before charging it at all. After using it, I did a proper "turn off" by selecting that option from the menu. Then, a few minutes later I tried to turn it on and it didn't do anything, I tried plugging it in to the charger for a while and then turning it on, and still nothing. It just stays dead and refuses to turn on now. Any ideas on how to bring it back to life???

Could just need a decent charge. But it can't hurt to disconnect the charger, pop the battery out for a bit, then put it back together and try again.

I'd leave the battery charging for lots of hours. Sometimes they appear dead as doornails, then after enough juice, alive as fireflies. I have two Hong Kong batteries and the original N800 battery, so I have quite a bit of experience with 'em.

I would guess that there's nothing wrong with your N810 except possibly a bad battery.

Same happens to me. I just emailed Nokia about it.

I also posted here (when I thought I knew how to get it back on):
http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=12731

This is what I wrote to Nokia:

My N810 does not power on anymore.

When I first got it out of the box, it only turned on after I left it on the charger for a while. I thought that would be normal, since I expected the battery to be empty.

Later I tuned the device off, while I was sure that the battery indicator indicated 3 hours left. I could not turn it back on. Pressing the button for 3 seconds had no result (led also stayed dark). I connected to the charger for a few minutes and then the charging icon appeared. With the charger still connected I could turn it on.

To test more, I turned it off, charged it overnight (in the off state) until the display showed the charging icon and the message to disconnect the charger to save energy. I disconnected the charger and tried to switch it on... nothing. I reconnected the charger: nothing happens, not even the charging icon in the middel of the screen appeared. The device just seems completely dead. I tried replacing the battery, removing the memory card. Nothing.

I measured the voltae of the battery, which was 4.06V (between pins + and -) which seems okay.

I remember havin a similar problem with my N800 in the beginning, but that was solved somehow (maybe new softare fixed it). The N800 even flashes the led as soon as you press the power button, even when the battery is completely empty. I would expect similar behavour on the N810. Also I would expect the N810 to show the Nokia logo as soon as you connect the charger.

I hope this is a known problem and that you have a solution.
BTW: I upgraded to the latest 2008 software as soon as I got the device.

Okay, It was completely dead and I tried everything. I left the battery out for a while (like 30 minutes) and when I put the battery back in the Nikia logo suddenly appeared! It went dark after that, but I could use the power button to switch it on again.

Then I switched it off, to test some more. Dead of course.

I strongly suspect that the device does not shut down properly and it has something to do with the software... If I have more news I will post it.

Strange... left it on the charger for a while (battery was already full) and suddenly I saw the Nokia screen and that changed into the screen with the charging logo in the middle. Then the power button worked again and I could switch on normally.

Weird...

The solution for now is to just be patient and do not switch it off in the first place.

Mine finally came back to life after I left the battery out for about 20 minutes and then reconnected it to the charger. These Nokia tablets have been having issues with the batteries and/or powering on for a really long time. I see in the forums that this has been an issue since the N770 days, they should really look into fixing this!

I have a separate charger that I bought on e-bay for $10 (counting shipping). It works great. I switch my two Hong Kong batteries off with my real Nokia battery. When the Nokia is dead, it revives nicely with a fully charged battery, and I don't have to rely on the Nokia to charge it.

I hardly ever plug my N800 in, though it seems to do a great job of charging on the rare times that I do. I have never had significant problems with the batteries, though I got what appeared to be a real Nokia battery when I got the charger and it fit the N800 so closely I needed to call in a surgeon and an electron microscope to get it out, and that battery was damaged in the removal.

Okay, more news on this issue.

I reflashed my N810 and recovered my back-up. I did not let the application manager install any additional packages. Turns out that I can now switch off and back on normally.

Conclusion: some package I have installed messed things up! I will investigate further and let you guys know which package is responsible.

Found it!

The responsible package was:
sbc-svn_20070608-1_armel.deb

Which I installed to get my stereo bluetooth headset to work. As soon as I installed this package I could not switch on the N810. I had to reconnect it to the charger before I could turn it back on again (after it had shown the "charging" icon).

The package installs the following files:
$ dpkg -L sbc-svn
/.
/usr
/usr/bin
/usr/bin/sbcinfo
/usr/lib
/usr/lib/libsbc.la
/usr/lib/pkgconfig
/usr/lib/pkgconfig/sbc.pc
/usr/lib/libsbc.so.0.0.0
/usr/lib/libsbc.a
/usr/share
/usr/share/doc
/usr/share/doc/sbc-svn
/usr/share/doc/sbc-svn/README
/usr/share/doc/sbc-svn/NEWS.gz
/usr/share/doc/sbc-svn/copyright
/usr/share/doc/sbc-svn/changelog.gz
/usr/share/doc/sbc-svn/changelog.Debian.gz
/usr/share/aclocal
/usr/share/aclocal/sbc.m4
/usr/include
/usr/include/sbc.h
/usr/lib/libsbc.so
/usr/lib/libsbc.so.0

Nothing strange here, must be the installation scripts that screw things up on the N810. I think the package was intended for the N800, since I already installed it there and it did not cause the same problems.

Well at least its not Nokia's fault.
