Considering the downsides to the N810's gps fix time and the added cost for the routing, I'm wondering if the Archos is now a worthy competitor to the N810 from a media convergence device / gps perspective. After looking at what Archos has to offer from a gps point of view, it seems it's a more complete offering than the wayfinder maps in the Nokia

Flash 9 upgrade is nice and although the Nokia is a better business tool rather than a media tool, it's nice to see the competitors doing things with their current lineup that adds to the attraction.

MMmm I don't know if its a worthy competitor for the 810...perhaps the 800. The n810 has the GPS intergrated into the unit and keyboard. But really, I wouldn't consider the GPS as a "value" added feature. Nice but you have to add the $130 attachment. Why not spend the $130 on a dedicated GPS and be done with it. I got my Tom Tom for $139.

It's funny though I actually seriously considered the 605 wifi when shopping for my 800. It has the hard drive and excellent codec support, but at the time only flash 7.
I would consider it more if I was more of a movie hound. That is its primary focus.

I just noticed that the GPS model has only either 4GB or 30GB. I thought the GPS model would have also applied to the 160GB version of the Archos 605. 30GB seems kind of limited. I've got 2 8GB cards, 1 4GB and the included internal 2 on my N810 which is uncomfortably close to the Archos hard drive space especially if a 16GB mini or micro card with adapter comes out in the near future. The overall price for the archos is $400.00 which includes the GPS package ( mounting and software), but don't know if you can purchase other maps if travelling like you can with the wayfinder software. I guess if you primarily use your device for movies, music and with light surfing, the Archos might be an option, but based on what I'm reading, I'd still buy the N810 if I had to make a choice.

On another GPS note, Just hope the diablo operating system / future firmware upgrade improves the maps and speeds up the Sat fix of the Nokia.

I know know well the Archos business model but after reading the article, I feel like it's an Apple wannabe with pay...then pay more.... and more... then again system.
