Are there any location aware programs for the N810? There was a whole bunch of hype about location aware programs before the N810 dropped, but now nobody really talks about it.

You might have looked at the most recent handful of posts; there's a thread going on here about that... But I don't know of any such apps, beyond mapping software.

The GPS is so crappy - it wouldn't really work. The slow lock times are ridiculous!

I think the most recent version of the OMWeather applet can get your position via GPS and then can display the weather forecast for this area. Or something like that.
I guess this is also some sort of location awareness.

Then you have still the option to use an external GPS mouse...

Is that the term for a GPS unit with no display? Care to recommend one?

I'd recommend the Holux M1000.

Sometimes it is used so, but there are also one or two genuine bluetooth mice available that have bluetooth in them, so you have one less item in your laptop case.

This might appear a bit boastful on my part, but please do not take it that way. In my own humble way, I have attempted to implement 'location awareness' into the two apps that I have developed so far -- though to be honest with you I have no idea if it works on the N810, but it works fine on my N800. I used the code examples described on the following page:

http://pymaemo.garage.maemo.org/docu...les/index.html

My first app was for 'entertainment' purposes only:

My most recent one is a 'serious' app that benefits from 'location awareness':
