I do not currently have the skills or resources to build this version of Lifera.
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UM...tingCAppsToUME

The source is at the bottom of the page or a link is here

I know a version of this comes with the IT but this appears newer and more full featured. If somebody would build this and make it available that would be great!

Thanks,
Ron

Looks interesting...I'm thinking about it. I wonder why the hell they didn't go ahead and provide a binary or deb package in the example?!!?!?!

My bad, they DID include the binaries/files for it....in the foobar directory. I guess all someone needs to do is to take everything in that foobar directory and make a deb package out of it.
I'm just going to tar.gz it for myself to see if it works.

UPDATE: It's not working. Error is
Code:
syntax error: "(" unexpected
Someone else can have a go.

Someone already worked on porting liferea to maemo: http://code.google.com/p/frothing/

I got this to compile and run inside the scratchbox environment today. It needs some GUI cleanup (THE FONTS THEY DEFAULT TO ARE *HUGE*) and I'd like to get away from it using GTKHTML as the rendering engine (is it possible to use minimo as the rendering engine?).

Once I do some cleanup I'll create packages and post them here for people to try.

Uh, guys... the default RSS feed reader in the tablet OS *is* a ported version of Liferea.

That's odd, because it still behaves/acts like the buggy POS it was in OS2007.
How does one take a decent open-source RSS reader and trash it like that?

Here's my list of gripes with the default client:
* How do I change the view to just show the feed's headlines instead of the headlines and the content? (The list view that google reader, net news wire, and liferea have).
* How do I create an "all unread items" entry in the feed list?
* How do I mark ALL feeds as read?

The default RSS reader just seems to be a proof of concept, not an application that someone who has 50+ RSS feeds can use.

Aside from the occasional long pause, it works just fine for me with ~60 feeds including podcasts, so I'm not quite sure how it was "trashed".

EDIT: If you download the source for the RSS feed reader, you'll see that it's an older version of Liferea (I think around 0.6.0 or so, I can't remember exactly which it was right now). Current appears to be 1.4.9 with significant changes.

It's open source, so maybe someone should just try to update it or add the features you'd need and give the changes back to Nokia upstream.

Those would all be good additions. Have you filed bugs for these?

I finally got around to filing a bug about this. If you'd like to vote for it (it's all enhancements) the url is https://bugs.maemo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3122
