To any of you from this fair land!

The elves at Nokia are hopfully delivering my new 810 today. Will celebrate both with some Lithuanian Wheat Beer later!

Yay for the fascistoid, antidemocratic bureaucracy of the EUSSR!

Fascistoid? That's a new one on me; sounds like some sort of extremely painful and likely terminal medical problem.

Which is to say, it's worse than it sounds, if I understand the intended meaning correctly.

Drink Lithium beer and/or sarcastically cheer for tyranny, I guess.

On the bright side, I don't live in Europe, so I don't have to do either. I celebrate Europe day by drudging my way through a massive take-home final...

Well a few of us (from 5 EU states) are planning to work our way around Europe by beer tonight. Not very high brow I admit but certainly in the spirit of European diversity :-)

Europe Day is May 9th. Has been every year for quite a while.

However new N810 turned up today so attention may be distracted on occasions :-)

Yes, i found it when I did a search, but I had never heard of europe day before you mentioned it.

So which fair land did you mean, as europe doesn't actually have any land of its own, unless you count a few square meters of belgium, and I am sure nothing in belgium counts!

Actually working my way through this year Open University course on European culture and identities. It's amazing what Europe means to different people; the continent, the cutlure, the EU, the flag, the institutions, the land itself and of course it has different intreprations for us Europeans and for Americans, Africans, Asians, etc. and whether ones culture is sourced from Europe such as French and British former colonies. When people speak of Europe they often imply a particular definition of the term to meet the needs of the conversation. Sufficient to say Europe is all of these and one takes ones pick :-)

And to think, I was only wishing everyone a Happy Day :-)

When people speak of anything they imply a particular definition, so it is probably much more likely with something as loosely defined as europe. Especially in the UK where feelings on the matter are so polarised and Europe seems to be that thing that is over there.

I sold a tablet once (fujitsu) saying 'Only ship to UK and europe'. The winning bidder was in israel but said they thought it was europe as they got the eurovision song contest!

Anyway, happy day to you too, either european or not. Hope your OU goes well. I am on my final year this year, just the 30 point project and I am out of there.
